Position Summary:

The Seal sander plays a key role in the production outcome of the finish department by doing thorough quality checks throughout the seal sanding process to ensure that top coat will adhere properly and defects are detected visually or by touch. 

essential duties & responsibilities:

  • Projects are sanded in a first in, first out flow.
  • Sand surface, edges and profiles using fine grit sandpaper and sanding blocks lightly to prep parts for finishing top coat.
  • Using vision and touch detect quality defects and remedy as needed before top coat can be added.
  • Feel surfaces for smoothness and defects before sending to paint.
  • Work with co-workers, supervisors and continuous improvement staff to communicate ideas that may eliminate cost and/or create efficiencies.
  • Ensure that all orders are orderly and paperwork is visible.
  • General cleanliness and housekeeping of sanding tables and surrounding areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent – Required
  • Experience using different sanding equipment and grades – preferred
  • Must have an eye for detail
  • Experience working in manufacturing, specifically in the wood industry is helpful but not necessary
  • Must be able to use vision and touch senses to determine quality of sanding
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment without losing attention to detail
  • Ability to follow basic instructions to ensure high quality
  • Ability to work as a team and communicate effectively with others
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
