Impact Management Services has a client located in Webberville, MI (approximately 25 miles east of Lansing, MI) seeking a Cost Estimating Engineer

The Cost Estimating Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate and professional cost estimates to the sales team for issuing profitable customers quotations. Estimates will include material processing, machining and assembly services to support new and existing business opportunities.

Evaluate customer requirements by interpreting drawings and/or models that are supplied by the customer, then develop cost models for parts and assemblies, including time, raw material, and outside services estimates as required to establish quoted costs.


  • Process RFQ’s and initiates the quotation process.
  • Interfaces with various departments, including Sales, Engineering and Production, in order to determine costs.
  • Provide accurate quotes to the Sales team and suggest alternatives, if appropriate, to secure the sale.
  • Conducts research as needed to obtain data on cost items not previously applied or recorded, e.g. Equipment, Fixtures and tools.
  • Generates scope of work for equipment and tooling suppliers.
  • Performs other related activities as required.
  • Ability to walk for long periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to twist, bend, stoop and walk up stairs


  • 4 year degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience or working knowledge of machine shop production standards.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, bill of materials, and quality control specifications and other technical information.
  • Minimum 3 years recent cost estimating experience with a strong machining/fabrication background preferably in automotive manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to operate computer and have in depth knowledge of capabilities/limitations of all conventional/CNC machines and assembly equipment.
  • Must be able to interpret engineering/tool designs and understand the use/application of learning curves to obtain labor hours for quantity quoted.
  • Detail-oriented with outstanding analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate with all levels of authority.
  • Advance user of all Microsoft Office Software, especially Excel.
  • Strong Mathematical aptitude.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is a must.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Beginner to Intermediate user of AutoCAD and Siemens highly desirable.
